Safety and Prevention 2026: Connecting OSH Professionals Across Europe
Ljubljana, Slovenia | 21–22 October 2026
Occupational safety and health professionals increasingly work across connected fields, from traditional workplace risk management to fire and process safety, ergonomics, mental health and emerging technologies. Events that bring these disciplines together provide an opportunity to exchange experience and consider how prevention can respond to changing workplace needs.
The third edition of the Safety and Prevention International Congress and Trade Fair took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on 21 and 22 October 2026. The programme combined professional presentations, workshops and an exhibition of products, equipment and services related to safety and prevention.
ENSHPO was represented through two of its Board members: Luka Bratec, representing the Slovenian Chamber of Safety and Health at Work, and Fergal Mc Kevitt, representing the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO).
A programme spanning established and emerging risks
The congress covered a broad range of subjects. Sessions on fire and process safety addressed technical and operational risks, while the programme also explored safety culture, leadership, training, psychosocial and ergonomic risks, mental health, artificial intelligence and digitalisation.
This breadth reflects the range of issues that can influence occupational safety and health. Some require specialised technical knowledge; others involve work organisation, human factors, management practices or the introduction of new technologies.
Bringing these perspectives together can support professional learning and encourage discussion about the relationship between risk assessment, prevention measures and workplace practice.
The event also offered opportunities for participants to exchange experience with colleagues, institutions and companies working in different areas of safety.
The value of European professional networks
ENSHPO brings together national organisations representing OSH professionals, helping create connections between professional communities across Europe.
The participation of Board members from Slovenia and Ireland illustrates how this network is connected to national professional organisations and their activities. These relationships provide opportunities to exchange information, identify shared concerns and maintain dialogue on developments affecting the profession.
For ENSHPO, engagement with events such as Safety and Prevention is relevant to its wider role in supporting professional cooperation and the dissemination of knowledge in occupational safety and health.
While national frameworks and workplace conditions differ, professionals across Europe often face related challenges: ensuring competent risk management, adapting to new technologies, strengthening prevention culture and maintaining attention to workers’ health and wellbeing.
Professional events provide one setting in which these challenges can be discussed and practical experience shared.
